I call myself a ‘yoga addict’! Initially I came to yoga to ‘get a bit of exercise’ but over the years I have discovered that the many layers of yoga go so much deeper than just the body. Now I come to yoga for much more than just ‘exercise’! Through teaching yoga, one to one sessions and pregnancy yoga; I hope to be able to help others discover the rich benefits of the yoga. I am convinced that yoga, practiced suitably, can benefit absolutely everyone.
I am profoundly grateful for the inspirational teaching I have had over the past 20 years. My teachers have given me a depth of knowledge and understanding about yoga. Through my extensive studies with Paul Harvey who studied in India with TKV Desikachar, I feel I have a direct link with Krishnamacharya, whom some say is the grandfather of yoga. I have also been blessed with endless support, advice and encouragement from others without whom I would never have continued this journey. I thank all who have added so much to my learning.
I have experimented with many different styles of yoga, but I always return to the Viniyoga tradition, as it’s like coming home! With its emphasis on breathing, slow dynamic movement and individual attention, it is different from many other forms of yoga. Viniyoga uses the techniques and ideas of yoga and applies them to the individual, respecting all aspects of their personal circumstances. This might include factors such as their age, health, physical abilities, occupation lifestyle, culture, religion and what they might be looking for from yoga. By using this tradition of yoga, the yoga I teach is safe and suitable for everyone.
My training differs from that of many others in that it works at two levels, both as a yoga teacher and as a yoga therapist.
I trained as a teacher and a therapist at the Centre for Yoga Studies, and after a 3 year extensive traning course, I graduated in 2009 with a Diploma in Yoga teaching and Yoga therapy. The Centre is a member organisation of the British Wheel of Yoga and I am an accredited individual BWY member.
I am a fully trained, experienced and endorsed IST trainer for the AYS
I continue to have regular supervision with my Teacher Chris Priest to ensure that my training, skills and knowledge is up to date and matched to my current teaching.
I am an active committee member of the Association of Yoga Studies which is an affiliation of Viniyoga practitioners
I have regular post graduate trainings with Sadhanamala. Through Dave Charlton and Ranju Roy I have explored the richness of Yogas; philosophical tradition. During year long training I have studied, in depth:
The Bhagavad Gita
Hatha Yoga Pradipika
Patanjalis Yoga Sutras.
I am fully up to date with my continuing Professional development and with my in-service training Days, and I regularly take part in Viniyoga yoga teacher sanghas in Bristol
I am fully up to date with my first aid training
I have completed Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training with Vivien Tallis-Evans, under the auspices of the BWY
I have my teaching skills regularly assessed by the Workers Education Alliance and have been found to be exceptional.
